  Armenia is a Colombian municipality, capital of the department of Quindío and one of the main centers of the Colombian coffee axis and of the Region Paisa. The city is located at the coordinates 4,5170 ° north latitude, 75.6830 ° west, 290 kilometers west of Bogota. It is a medium sized city located in the Golden Triangle. History


The Earthquake of the Coffee Hub of 1999 was an earthquake that greatly affected the departments of Quindío and Risaralda in Colombia. The earthquake occurred on Monday, January 25, 1999 at 13:19 (18:19:17 UTC) with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale.

This area has a high seismic risk due to the triple junction that occurs in the corner of the South American Plate where the plates of Nazca and Plate of the Caribbean converge between them.

Other aftershocks that caused panic among the inhabitants occurred on January 29 at 23:33 local time, magnitude 4.2 (MS) and on January 31 at 03:03 local time, magnitude 3.5 ( MS).
